Twitter is rumored to be testing a new breaking service under the extension @eventparrot, but is staying quiet on the topic.
The account currently has about 7,000 followers, and, according to its description, is meant to help Twitter users "keep up with what's happening in the world." Its followers including Twitter's CEO and co-founders, Dick Costolo, Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams.
According to a report by CNet, Twitter won't confirm if @eventparrot is an official company test. The profile, however, resembles other test accounts of the past.
Twitter has also hinted at the account, stating last month in a blog post that it sometimes makes "under-the-hood changes that help suggest relevant content in real time and make Twitter more engaging" for its audience.
This isn't Twitter's first test account. It's had other accounts, like @magicrecs, in the past. The difference, however, was those accounts were always indentified as Twitter experimental accounts.
As CNet points out, Twitter has yet to turn a profit. Accounts like @eventparrot may be a stab at generating revenue and attracting as well as keeping users active on the site.
"Big stories have started to break on Twitter, and having a direct notification system could be a way to expand that capability. Presumably, Twitter could find some way to charge news outlets to distribute their information through the account," says CNet.
